Anyone know about do it yourself armoring, either with kits or otherwise?

They aren't cheap. The poly/kevlar stuff they use is pretty cool though.
Of course, you could go with the budget method, employed by our very own troops in Iraq for awhile, at least until all the middlemen got paid off, which is basically plywood and sandbags. Whatever you do, don't complain to Rummy about it.
